Eider Drake with Inletted Head

Super eider drake in old repaint. Found in Maine. Measures approximately 17" long. Structurally quite sound, although it has some minor age cracks and an old "J" shaped surface crack on the right side of its body that has an old nail securing it (see 3rd photo). The black repaint on the right side and on the tail appears to be a little shinier than on the rest of the body.  $325

Lovely Carved Songbird

Late 19th-early 20th C carved songbird perched on a branch. In very good shape with no apparent damage or repairs and only minor paint loss.  $795

Folky Minnesota Pike circa 1930's. Very good condition and showing expected wear. I'm not sure whether it ever had eyes or not. Measures just over 10" long.  $275

   

Late 19th C Autograph Album-- Kittie Steele, Cambridge, MA

Autograph album belonging to Kittie Steele of Cambridge, MA.   Most pages are signed by friends in Cambridge in 1873. Also entries from friends in Montreal, NH, and several other towns in MA. Includes a wonderful calligraphy of a bird signed "Yours Respectfully C. W. Cunningham Concord, NH". There is also a beautiful drawing of pansies with the inscription "pansies, that's for thoughts. S H O".  I believe S H O is the same S H Olmsted who drew another beautiful picture in the other Cambridge, MA autograph album listed separately. Album has a few blank pages scattered throughout. Album measures 7" by 4". $125

 

   

Late 19th C Autograph Album-- Cambridge, MA

Autograph album belonging to a young girl named Helen (possibly Reed or Steele) of Cambridge, MA.   Most pages are signed by friends in Cambridge in 1873. Includes a very detailed drawing of a father and son fishing and the father is about to hook the name S. H. Olmsted. I believe this is the same person who drew pansies in the Kittie Steele album. Album measures 8" by 5". $75

   

Late 19th C Autograph Album-- Lillie Osgood, Boston, MA

Autograph album belonging to Lillie F. Osgood of Boston, MA.   Most pages are signed by friends in Boston in 1880. Includes 5 lovely watercolors, all of which look to have been done by the same hand, presumably by Lillie. The first one is a bird's nest surrounded by strawberries, three are of sprays of flowers, and the fifth is a bird perched on a flowering branch. Album is only partially used with 20 entries. Album measures 7" by 4". $100

    

   

Fish Weathervane found on Cape Cod

Early 20th C fish weathervane with great form, a weathered surface and remnants of white paint. Missing one rear fin.   Measures 24" long.  $695

   

 Vintage Folky Fish Spearing Decoys 

A red and silver pike from Minnesota measuring just over 5" long. It's condition is good and original and has some normal paint loss associated with use. It was coated with what appears to be shellac long ago, so it has a slight sheen.    SOLD

A white painted fish with great form attributed to Don Klein, a carver from Minnesota. It measures approximately 6" long and is in good original condition with normal paint loss.   $85

A super brook trout from Michigan. It measures about 8 1/2" long and is painted in dark green with red accents and tack eyes. It is in good original condition with light paint wear and has terrific form.   SOLD

Fairview Fruit Farm Sign

A great early 20th C. double sided sheet iron sign for the Fairview Fruit Farm that was found in Maine. The two rods originally used for mounting this sign are still attached.   Measures 54" X 15".  $525

   

Pineapple Butter Mold

Deeply carved pineapple butter mold from the Ricker Farm in Alfred, Maine. Mold is birch and has the best patina and a great smooth feel from use.   $225    

   

Portrait Miniature attributed to Rufus Porter

Portrait miniature of a handsome young man attributed to Rufus Porter, circa 1820. Watercolor on paper. Found in the accompanying early 19th C. embossed gilt brass over wood frame. 

Measures 4 1/4" by 3 1/4".  $1695

   

18th C Lace Maker's Pattern

18th C floral lace maker's pattern signed on the back by Deborah Gage of Enfield, New Hampshire. Research shows that a Deborah Gage was born on May 19, 1739 to William Gage and Deborah Swan who were married in Methuen, MA in 1736. Professionally framed with an acid free board and museum glass.  $525

   

Rare Rooster Spinner Arcade Target

Late 19th-early 20th C iron rooster spinner target attributed to William Wurfflein of Philadelphia. Stamped "23" on the back. Measures approximately 9" high by 3 3/4" at its widest point. Comes with a custom display stand.  $495

   

Elmwood Lookout Sign

A super pine sign for "Elmwood Lookout" dating from the late 19th- early 20th C. and found in New Hampshire. Signed on the lower front right corner by the painter, "Davis, Warner, NH". In very good structural condition. The letters are black with red as a shadow effect on a white background. The paint shows good honest wear. The sign measures approximately six feet long.  $1195

   

Yellowlegs Shorebird

Yellowlegs from Long Island, New York with original paint or very old repaint and tack eyes. Paint shows moderate wear and is down to the bare wood in spots, particularly on its sides. It is slightly flat sided, measuring 1" across. There is a "2" painted on the underside. The bill appears to have been shortened.  This shorebird measures about 10 1/2" inches from the tip of its bill to the end of its tail. Shown mounted on an Australian mallee root base, the decoy is for sale with or without the base. $475

   

Terrific Folky Owl Carving

A super folky owl by carver George Berry of Pearl, Mississippi, whose works span half a century. This carving measures 8" from the base to the tips of the owls ears and displays a wonderful well balanced form with simple lines and great proportions. Signed on the base by Mr. Berry and believed to be circa 1970's.  $195

    

 

   

19th C Tole Snuff Box

Tole snuff box decorated with the phrase "Honesty is the Best Policy". Paint shows wear. Box was varnished over long ago to preserve the remaining paint. Has a faint smell of tobacco when lid is opened. Box measures 6 1/2" long x 3 3/4" wide x 1" tall.    $95

   

 

Exceptional Partridge Butter Print

Very fine late 19th C. butter print. Deeply carved partridge with terrific feather detail surrounded by foliage and a fluted border. Has an applied handle. Wonderful patina and in excellent condition, with only a tiny shallow chip just to the left of the wing. Missing its mold. Approximately 3 3/4" in diameter and 4 1/2" tall.

Miniature Thistle Butter Print

Deeply carved print depicting thistle and foliage surrounded by two concentric incised circles. Overall excellent condition and great detail for a small butter print. There is an in- the-making hole that runs through the center of the print to the handle.Measures just 1 3/4" across and just under 2" tall.

Acorn Butter Print

Deeply carved acorn on a stem with a large leaf on either side. Print measures about 3" in diameter and has a 4" long narrow handle, all carved out of one piece of wood. The end of the handle shows a bit of wear. This print was originally made to fit inside a mold.
