Newburyport, MA Sampler Circa 1822

Sampler wrought by Mary Gordon Plummer when she was 10 years old. Mary was born in Newburyport on May 15, 1812 to Enoch Plummer and Mary Gordon and was one of six children. In 1832 Mary married Stephen Bartlett of Eastport, Maine.

This sampler is silk on linen and includes several rows of alphabets and numerals divided by decorative bands of waves, chains, hearts, and flowers. It also has a religious verse and a meandering strawberry vine border. The sampler measures 26" X 21" framed.  $895

Early Red and Sage Green Bed Cover

I am always thrilled when I find a lovely 3 panel bed cover. And, this one is just super. In very nice condition with wonderful warm colors of red and sage green homespun wool and linen. Measures approximately 56" X 72". Early 19th C. The picture doesn't do it justice... the bed cover looks much nicer in person!  $495

Fantastic Penny Rug

Lovely hexagonal penny rug measuring 48" x 24".  This penny rug is made out of 124 individual hexagonal pieces that have been stitched together with a sewing machine.  Each hexagonal piece is topped with 2 pennies that have been stitched on by hand. Most of the pennies look to have been sewn on by the same hand, but there are a few that show a simpler stitch. Possibly a child helping her mother? The predominant colors are black, purple, blue, red, gray, and brown.  Note that the true colors are more muted than shown in the photos.  This penny rug is in excellent condition with only a few tiny stains, a couple of little holes and a few loose stitches.  It is backed with what looks like a fragment of 19th C ingrain carpet.  This looks great on a dining table or on a blanket chest.  And, we bet it would look fantastic mounted and hung on a wall!     $595

Lovely Floral Demilune Hooked Rug

Late 19th- early 20th C floral demilune hooked rug. Hooked with fabric strips and yarn on burlap. Orange, yellow and beige tulips and daisy-like flowers on a light blue ground divided by arches of varying beige tones. This rug is in good shape; only the typical age-related wear to note. The front has faded somewhat -especially the blue- and could probably use a good cleaning and the black binding shows quite a bit of wear. There is also one small stitched repair on the back that is not noticeable from the front. Measures approximately 29" X 19 1/2". A sweet hooked rug that would look lovely mounted.  $395
